Experience the Thrills of Surfing at Blackstone Surf Bali

Experience the Thrills of Surfing at Blackstone Surf Bali

South Bali

For surfers who are in Bali, they definitely want to enjoy fun surfing activities. You can get this experience by trying to surf in the Blackstone area.

The Blackstone Surf Bali area is located on Bali’s southeast coast, nestled along the beach of high-end resorts in Nusa Dua. Blackstone, a surfable wave, breaks off the south side of Waterblow, a craggy limestone peninsula.

Blackstone, while not distant from some of the many other expert level reef breaks, is a little more manageable for novice and intermediate surfers. The name “Blackstone” refers to a jutting boulder of black basalt exposed to the north of the reef’s long tip.

Expect to paddle out at low tide because the reef is usually left high and dry except at high tides with a good surge. Blackstone is an excellent site to add to your list of breakers for your next surf trip to Bali because it is conveniently positioned near a range of breaks in the area.

The Ultimate Surf Experience at Blackstone Surf Bali

Blackstone is a fantastic wave that jacks up quickly from deep water and crashes predominantly left. The bounce from the rock creates a peaky wedge that can be difficult to take off on and provides a rapid zippy ride best suited to advanced surfers.

There’s also a shaky right hander that drops into deep water on a good day. On smaller days, the wave is more mellow and suited for intermediate and beginner surf training further away from the rock.

What Kind of Wave Here?

Blackstone is a mushy wave in comparison to some of its steep and barreling neighbors. This is not to mean that you should not anticipate to have a great time during the peak wet season. Sets that bounce back from the point can assist the wave bowl out with steep open shoulders that are ideal for aerials. Having said that, Blackstone is mostly a terrific wave for novices and occasionally fills in with learner surfers.

On higher tides, beginners often sit inside to avoid washing up on exposed reef and broken urchin spines. When paddling back to the peak, look for a gap in the line-up that leads to a little beach off Water Blow point. Unless you want a long paddle out back, this is the best place to get in.

Other Activities

  1. One of the activities you can do around Blackstone if you don’t want to surf is to visit Water Blow. Nusa Dua’s Water Blow is a natural lookout point on the south side of Blackstone’s surfing area. Waves crash against jagged limestone pillars jutting out into the sea at the most remote point of Water Blow. If the waves are big, it’s worth walking a step or two. An excellent location for photography or taking a break from the crowds.

Water Blow is open from 09:00 – 17:00. If you are on vacation with children and family, then the best time to visit is in the afternoon around 16:00, because the heat of the sun is already reduced.

  2. If you’re interested in history you can visit Museum Pasifika. Museum Pasifika is a showcase of art influenced by Bali’s culture, people, and scenery.

The Museum houses an amazing collection of artwork by Balinese, European, and Australian artists who have visited and resided in Bali. Perfect for recouping from a recent sunburn.

  3. You can also spend time looking around at what’s on sale at Bali Collection, if it’s suitable maybe go shopping. Bali Collection is a common mall seen all over the world. With traditional meals and garra rufa pedicures, it has a distinct Balinese vibe.

There aren’t many people roaming around the mall, but there are two pharmacies in case you’ve wrecked yourself on the reef on your surf trip to Blackstone.
