Uluwatu is located at the bottom of the island, around 45 minutes drive from the Airport or Kuta area.
Uluwatu is actually the place for one of Balinese major temple, called Uluwatu Temple which is located on the edge of a cliff, and underneath of the temple there’s a beach with beautiful waves for surfers.
As this place is a cliff area and you need to go down to the surfing site on foot through hundreds of stairs, so watch out for the sharp reefs along the way, a surfing shoe is recommended.
SURFING IN ULUWATU
Check out the photos below to get some ideas of your surfing field, you can get a very nice waves in Uluwatu beach but there are also some risks that you need to be aware of. There are more reefs here than at other surfing spots in Bali, so not seldom that some surfers got some scratch on the body parts due to strong current that drifted them under to the reefs. Nevertheless the risks worth the pleasure, as this beach is closer to Indian Ocean therefore it generates better waves compare to the other beaches in Bali.
This beach is only for experienced surfer, not for beginners.
