Medewi is located on Two hours drive North West of Denpasar and the Bukit Peninsular, a surfer’s paradise and an untouched hint of what Bali was like just a few decades ago. The bustling highway on the way to Medewi is mainly used for the overnight or early morning drive to Gilimanuk, the port in the North-West of Bali where boats, ferries and transport vessels cross to the Island of Java. The highway is hectic and full of trucks and buses taking overloaded freight and countless passengers. After fighting the traffic in the south, the built up residential areas give way to endless rice paddocks and finally, the ocean. The road follows the coast and the scenery just gets better the further you go.
Before you know it you are surrounded by green tropical rainforest with vines and the every sort of tropical tree you can imagine. Local kids are playing in the river down below. Unlike Kuta, there’s no other tourists around you, no hawkers trying to sell you anything, so T-shirt stalls or surf shops, You are far from Kuta now and already seeing a place that seems perhaps like what all of Bali might have been like only a couple of decades ago.
SURF IN MEDEWI
