Hyatt Reef is a big reef in front of the Bali Hyatt Resort. The break is far from perfect, with too many moving areas, although the surf can be terrific on a large swell at high tide.
At Hyatt Reef, there are two peaks. The outside peak is erratic but can yield great barrels, whereas the inside peak is more consistent with a right-hand barrel section. Hyatt Reef is located far out at sea and can experience large waves. On a little swell at high tide, intermediate surfers can ride it. However, in large swells, it is only for expert surfers.

Hyatt Reef is 2 kilometers off shore, so rent a Jukung boat to carry you there and wait while you surf. There have been rumors of a large shark cruising the break frequently, although this could just be locals scaring us away from a good but inconsistent wave.
It takes almost no wind and a strong tide to keep you from drifting away from the take-off point. As a result, the ideal circumstances are early morning high tides. Right hand peaks move around a little, but if you’re in the right location at the right moment, it can be an unforgettable ride. A prize for a challenging area.
Hyatt Reef Quick Info

This length of coastline provides plenty of places to eat and hang out for the day, or perhaps a week if your wallet allows, as the hotels and restaurants along the beach are geared toward more affluent visitors.

Getting to Hyatt Reef and Best Time to Go
Follow Jalan By Pass Ngurah Rai towards sanur. Turn off onto Jalan Danau Poso and follow all the way until the end, you will find parking near the beach. You will see the reef on the right hand side of the channel looking out to see. It is difficult to see from the beach.
Summer and, more often than not, the month of January are the greatest times of year for surfing Sanur – Hyatt Reef with continuous clean waves (rideable swell with mild / offshore winds). In January, clean surfable waves may be found 75% of the time, while the remaining 8% of the time it is blown out. Most surfers consider it too tiny for the remaining 17% of the time, however it may be OK for novices and groms at times.
