Dreamland Beach – The Complete Surf Guide

Dreamland Beach – The Complete Surf Guide

South Bali

Dreamland Beach (Pantai Dreamland) is one of many beautiful beaches along the rugged coastline of South Bali’s Bukit Peninsula. With its limestone cliffs, golden sands, and turquoise waters, this is a popular tourist destination that should not be missed when visiting Uluwatu.

dreamland beach

Dreamland is the odd one out among the various surf spots on Bali’s west coast’s Bukit (the southern part) region. Balangan, Impossibles, and Bingin are all left-hand reef breaks.
Dreamland is a fun and playful left and right breaking wave that breaks over a flat limestone reef.

Dreamland Beach Location

Dreamland Beach is also known as New Kuta because it is the beachfront portion of a large hotel/golf community founded in the 1980s and 1990s by Tommy Soeharto, the son of then-President Suharto.

Driving into the Golf course area from the Ungasan / airport direction is simple. Turn right when you see a large statue. After 5 minutes of driving downhill, you’ll come to the beach signs.

Waves in Dreamland Beach

Dreamland is a right-hand peak that consistently breaks into a channel. When the wave reaches the deeper channel after a fun take-off, it quickly becomes mellow. It allows you to do a couple of bottom turns and off the lips.

The left-hander on the other side of the peak is inconsistent, but it retains power and shapes better at times because it does not mellow out into a channel. Paddling back out is more difficult because there is no channel. A left-hander with a shifting peak can hold its shape well and connect all the way to the inside section. The right-hander on that peak can also be a fun long ride, but it closes out more easily and lacks a channel for paddling back out.

There’s a spot with the local indo kids that’s consistent but short, but great for mini barrels and air game practice. Be cautious of the rocks here, as there are a few large boulders visible during low tide.

Dreamland Tides:
Dreamland beach works on low and mid-tides, and outside waves at Dreamland barely break. The better the majority of the waves at Dreamland are when the tide is low.

Dreamland caters to surfers of all levels, from complete beginners on small days to expert surfers surfing the shore break and practicing the air game.
Best Swell Direction: South – South West
Swell size: 2′ – 6′
Wind Direction: Easterly tradewinds
The best time of year to surf impossibles is between April and November.
